Also included in this video: über-player Will Cherry, newly-minted player Celine Lam and footage from the excellent music video Deal, Space Bound.

Drift Deck - an algorithmic puzzle game for navigating city streets

This beautifully-designed set of cards is a kind of dérive assistant that enables players to uncover and intervene upon the psychogeography of the cities they live in. Originally designed by Julian Bleecker and Dawn Lozzi for Conflux 2008.

The Drift Deck (Analog Edition) is an algorithmic puzzle game used to navigate city streets. A deck of cards is used as instructions that guide you as you drift about the city. Each card contains an object or situation, followed by a simple action. For example, a situation might be — you see a fire hydrant, or you come across a pigeon lady. The action is meant to be performed when the object is seen, or when you come across the described situation. For example — take a photograph, or make the next right turn. The cards also contain writerly extras, quotes and inspired words meant to supplement your wandering about the city. (Near Future Laboratory)

16 June 2014: Tunisian transmedia campaign

16 Juin 2014 is a participatory transmedia event that took place in February of 2011. The project engaged the Tunisian public via a variety of platforms and interactions in playfully imagining the country’s post-revolution future. 16 Juin 2014 was spearheaded by ad agency Memac Ogilvy Label:

Memac Ogilvy Label decided to show everyone how bright Tunisia’s future could be if everyone all started building it now. The agency convinced six brands and five major Tunisian media outlets (one radio, one television, two newspapers and one online magazine) to participate in the June 16th 2014 campaign. During a whole day, the media acted as if it were June 16th 2014 and presented Tunisia as a prosperous, modern and democratic country. To further engage people, the agency launched a hashtag on Twitter [#16juin2014] and 16juin2014.com, a website with all the content and where people could share their own vision of the future. Nagi

Media_httpwww3ii3netn_aqqgm

Original "nagi" is a sound game software created by the game music composer Takayuki Nakamura in the hope of helping as many earthquake victims as possible to recover some tranquility. There are sweet, noisy, likable or annoying enviromental sounds surrounding us. The game takes in any and all such sounds and will keep repeating until they finally become peaceful waves or calms (called "nagi" in Japanese).Take your time, sit back, and play it easy.We hope playing "nagi – a peaceful calm" functions as praying for all those who were hurt from the disaster.

Super Mario Sidewalk Speedrun

via Peter Brinson:

Whoever plays such a speedrun knows the levels by heart it’s safe to say. A clear challenge in a game like this is that the frame doesn’t show you what’s a bit to the right until you’re close to it (danger). What’s nice about this piece is that it actualizes the expert player’s memorized map of these levels – laid out on a sidewalk. That effect would be lost if the player weren’t an ace at the game, I think. (USC IMD/Peter Brinson)

Notes on the project by creator Andreas Heikaus:

This video was part of my Bachelor thesis at the University of Applied science and art Hannover. The Super Mario Bros. game, released on the Nintendo Entertainment System, is not longer bound to the television size and get interactive with a new environment. The emphasis of my thesis is on the matchmoving work. It is the process of matching CG elements into live-action footage. (Vimeo)
